Touchscreen(HMI) usability improvements
Overview
The improvements involved changes in usability after an analysis of the existing design.
Changes were made based on good practices, usability principles, shadowing usability tests, and interviews.
Branding
The entire branding was based on red which was also the main color of the cta. This resulted in a lack of visibility of error messages, which is very dangerous in a production line.
Reducing complexity
Filling the components with content and lots of unnecessary buttons made the screen unreadable and overloaded, in addition, due to the fixed size, there was no possibility to add new and expanded functions.
Contrast improvements
The screens were used in production halls with varying light intensity, which, with very low contrast, led to poor visibility of content and important data necessary for process continuity.
Buttons improvements
Improved contrast and visibility resulted in a much faster response to the cta. In addition, the main button has been placed more centrally, improving accessibility when positioning the screen on the left or right side of the stand.
